Get the facts and learn about the possible benefits of CBD oil
CBD-infused products are all over the news these days. From edibles to oils, to skin products – everyone seems to be talking about the anti-inflammatory and anti-anxiety benefits of hemp-derived CBD oil. But, is CBD oil really all it’s cracked up to be?
To help cut through the hype, we’ve collected a few facts along with a list of possible benefits of CBD oil and CBD-infused products.
The Facts About CBD
What is CBD?
CBD, or cannabidiol, is a compound of the Cannabis plant. CBD is one of 113 phytocannabinoids contained in cannabis. Another well-known phytocannabinoid is THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the main psychoactive cannabinoid known for its euphoria-inducing effects. THC is what causes the ‘high’ effect often associated with marijuana.
Does CBD oil get you high?
Marijuana and hemp are different strains of the cannabis plant. Hemp-derived CBD has none of the psychoactive properties associated with THC and does not produce mind-altering effects.
How is CBD oil made?
CBD oil is made by extracting CBD from the cannabis plant, then diluting it with a carrier oil like coconut or hemp seed oil.
How does CBD oil work?
The human body contains a specialized system called the endocannabinoid system (ECS). CBD works by interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid receptors, which are involved in the regulation of a variety of immune and central nervous system functions, including sleep, appetite, pain and immune system response.
Is CBD legal?
There seems to be a lot of confusion around whether selling and/or consuming CBD products is legal. While the federal government legalized CBD that’s derived from hemp (the farm bill was signed into law in December 2018), the FDA’s current rules prohibit companies and restaurants from adding it to food or drinks.
Additionally, CBD is not regulated by the FDA, and each state has its own laws about the sale of CBD products. The lack of FDA regulation opens the door for some unscrupulous manufacturers to make claims about their products that cannot be verified.
What kinds of products are offered with CBD?
CBD products come in two main forms:
- CBD isolate – This is the purest form of CBD, usually considered to be 99.9% pure.
- Full-spectrum CBD- Can contain other plant compounds called terpenes, and sometimes small amounts of THC, that may work together to enhance the positive effects of CBD.
We found a variety of product carriers, including:
- Food products: including peanut butter, honey, chocolate protein bars, coffee and more
- Oils: Coconut, MCT & olive oils for cooking, edible elixirs, and massage oils
- Beauty products: Skin serums, lotions, soaps, cosmetics, eye, and lip balms – all mentioning anti-inflammatory and redness reduction
