District Performance

The Texas Smart School Score is a rating based on academic performance and spending, with the highest score illustrating exceptional academic progress with lower expenditure. The TEA Accountability Rating measures on how well the district prepared students for success. The district rating is inclusive of student preparation both in school and after high school in college, a career, or the military.

Financial Performance

The Financial Performance chart entries highlight how each district spends money on students based on the income they receive. The Financial Integrity Rating is from the School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST)accountability rating system, which holds school districts accountable for the quality of their financial management practices. *Based on 2018-2019 school financial data due to COVID-19.

About TEA

The Texas Education Agency is the state agency that oversees primary and secondary public education. TEA is charged with measuring improving outcomes for all public school students in the state through leadership, guidance, and support to school systems.

The TEA evaluates public schools and districts under state accountability requirements. Unless otherwise noted, the following data is from the TEA state accountability ratings. Total enrollment and number of schools data are from TEA’s 2019-2020 reports. Due to COVID-19, other performance and financial ratings are from TEA’s 2018-2019 reports.

 

About Texas Smart Schools

Texas Smart Schools is an initiative by TsSmartSchools.org based on the foundational work of the Financial Allocation Study for Texas (FAST) launched by Susan Combs during her tenure as Texas Comptroller. The Texas Smart Schools rating is a figure between one and five stars based on academic progress and spending. The highest rating of five stars indicates the most vigorous academic progress combined with the lowest relative expenditures.
